Simon Saunders

With 38 years in education teaching primary, middle and high school, I bring a wealth of experience. I specialize in teaching reading: phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension to upper primary and middle school students. I am particularly interested in EAL learners and learners who may have gaps in their knowledge that schools have not picked up. I have worked with students with dyslexia and students new to English, and those whose conversational English is good but their academic English and vocabulary is limited. I aim to develop fluency, confidence and excellent communication and presentation skills.

Highly organized, well-structured and well resourced. I like to know my students and know which areas they need to develop so I can target the lessons to focus on those specific needs, not wasting time teaching things the student already knows. I like to check for understanding constantly and I like the student to talk more than I do. My questions, guide, encourage and direct the learner's answers, once explicit teaching has been delivered. Success leads to motivation, and I like to think I can help the most reluctant students to be successful.
